Opnext was established in Eatontown, New Jersey with operations in Totsuka, Japan and San Jose, California in September 2000 created from the resources of the Fiber Optic Components Business Unit at Hitachi Ltd and funded by the Clarity Group. Building on three decades of advanced Hitachi technology and an admirable history in the field of optical components,they established their own broad portfolio of solutions. They enjoy the full support of Hitachi's R&D efforts, including the Central Research Laboratory (CRL), Mechanical Engineering Research Laboratory (MERL),and Production Engineering Research Laboratory (PERL),to stay a step ahead of their markets and their customer’s needs with best-quality components and innovative applications. In addition, Opnext’s manufacturing sites in Japan are ISO 14001 compliant. ISO 14001 is a voluntary international standard and registration is recognized internationally as demonstration that a company is effective in managing its impact on the environment. The registration is granted by third party reviewers under guidelines administered by International Organization for Standardization. The standard is consistent with the concept of sustainable development and stresses continual improvement.
