· It is reported that Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Rapidus has reached a strategic cooperation agreement with IBM, and at the same time seeks hundreds of millions of yen in funds to establish a huge ecosystem to help Rapidus manufacture the most advanced chips. Rapidus plans to mass-produce 2nm+ ultra-fine chips in 2027, and 2nm semiconductors will be mass-produced as soon as 2025. This time, Japan expressed its official announcement and IBM's impact on the 2nm process: the price of failure is huge! It is not difficult to see from the fact that Japan has recruited two major masters to tackle key problems in the 2nm process: Japan's determination to win in the advanced process competition is huge.
· Apparently, the US and Japan have an iron agreement on semiconductors thanks to IBM's 2 Nano technology. It can be seen that Japanese domestic semiconductors need to rely on European and American technology to fill the gap; that is to say, Rapidus will obtain 2nm technology from IBM. Japan's semiconductor overtaking on a corner, finding super backup, and mass producing 2nm in just 5 years all mean that this is an ambitious goal.
· The president of Rapidus also said that he hopes to start pilot production of 2-nanometer chips based on IBM (IBM. N) technology in Japan around 2025 to 2030.
· Not long ago, on December 7, imec, a Belgian microelectronics research center, also signed a memorandum of cooperation with Rapidus, a newly established semiconductor company in Japan, to promote the development of 2nm chips. It is understood that imec was established in 1984 and is currently a leading independent research center in Europe. Its research directions mainly focus on microelectronics, nanotechnology, aided design methods, and information and communication system technology (ICT).
· It is reported that Rapidus is a company jointly invested by eight major Japanese companies, including Toyota, Sony, Kioxia, NTT, Denso, NFC, Mitsubishi and Softbank.
· Another detailed information shows that IBM was founded in the United States in 1911 by Thomas John Watson. This is the world's largest information technology and business solutions company, with more than 310,000 employees worldwide and operations in more than 160 countries and regions.
· The cooperation between the two technology giants indicates that the global semiconductor development trend will be more rapid. Audience groups have said: Semiconductors will "roll" to new heights because of this cooperation!
· IBM always believes that there is a two-way street in enterprise cloud transformation, and sustainable technology and partners are indispensable; the epidemic has changed the consumption pattern and accelerated the transformation of retail enterprises to borderless. Therefore, while cooperating with Rapidus, IBM did not forget to launch black technology products to solve the last mile business problem of cloud transformation, and created a 24-core Power chip, which is convenient for customers to use Oracle database licenses while fully integrating AI and sustainability capabilities.
